Product Description
In 1936 my father set a new world record crossing the United States in a Harley Davidson Motorcycle with a side car. I have the original banner/poster from this record and recently had it professionally restored. This banner/poster is a professional reproduction printed on high quality matte bond paper ready for framing. The poster/banner is very large, image size is 20" x 52" wide plus a 1/4" white border. Inks are archival quality. Ships via Priority Mail Insured. Very limited supply. Copyright 2009, All Rights Reserved.
The wording on the banner/poster: “HARLEY-DAVIDSON CROSSES CONTINENT IN FASEST TIME EVER MADE BY MOTORCYCLE. BEATS FORMER SIDECAR RECORD BY 17 HOURS 9 MINUTES. BEATS SOLO RECORD TIME BY 1 HOUR 34 MINUTES. LOS ANGELES, CLAIF., October 9, 1936, Roaring into Los Angeles today, on a heavy loaded Harley-Davidson 80” sidecar outfit at 5:46 P.M. (Pacific Coast Time), Bill Connelly and Fred Dauria, two New York City lads, successfully completed the fastest transcontinental trip ever made by a motorcycle. Their total elapsed time from Holland Tunnel, New York City, where they left at 11 P.M. (eastern Standard Time), October 6, to Los Angeles, was 69 hours and 46 minutes. All previous marks fell beneath the whirling wheels of their Harley-Davidson. L.C. Smith’s former sidecar record was smashed by 17 hours and 9 minutes. Their time was 1 hour and 34 minutes better than the solo record held by R. Rodenberg. For 3300 long, adventuresome miles, through fog and rain in the East, and through the burning heat of the western desert country, the New York lads pushed their sturdy Harley-Davidson to the limit. And their ever dependable mount roared on and on through the dark hours of Tuesday night, all Wednesday, another night, Thursday, another night, and dawn once more. During the time-shattering flight the motor was never shut off more than 8 minutes at a time and then only when stops had to be made to get their check sheets certified and to take on gas. The 80” motor finished the torturous grind in wonderful shape, requiring no attention at the end of the journey. Connelly and Dauria, too, came through in splendid physical condition. The accomplishment of these plucky riders will live long in the annuals of motorcycling. Once again Harley-Davidson stock models prove their outstanding stamina and dependability against terrific odds. HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.”
Banner/poster also has insert pictures of the motorcycle during the record, a picture with the record at a Harley-Davidson dealer in Los Angeles, and a picture from a Hill Climb with an A.M.A. Referee.
Would look great in any Harley-Davidson dealership, Biker Bar, or your Game Room.
