French explorer, Robert Rene' Cavalier, Sieur de La Salle sailed his ship into Matagorda Bay, Texas, January 1686. The La Belle was severely damaged in a wintery storm and sank... 310 years later, 1996, the wreck is being salvaged. Many interesting historical notes and interesting details.
